As time goes on, we have received more and more questions about how to forward an email as an attachment “as attachment” with correct letter headers and in different environments/programs. Here we have collected instructions for different applications/environments:

1. Gmail

 
1. Sign in to your Gmail account
2. Open the letter you want to forward (with letter headers)
3. In the e-mail line next to the “Reply” button, press the “More” button (down arrow)
4. Select “Show original” from the menu
A summary of the letter with headers opens in a new tab. To forward it in the desired format, click on the “Download original” link.
With this tool, you can save the necessary file on your computer as a text file, which you can later send via Gmail by adding it as an attachment to the recipient.
 


 

2. Outlook

 
1. Open Outlook.
2. Start composing a new letter.
3. Drag (click-and-drag) the desired e-mail into the attachment line of the new message window.
(An attachment may appear with the desired e-mail or in some cases also an in-letter file with the .eml extension.)
 


 

3. Roundcube

 
Roundcube has 2 options:
First (forwards the message as an attachment without saving it to the computer):
1. Log in to Webmail (Roundcube)
2. Select the letter you want to forward
3. From the menu, press the arrow next to the “Forward” button and select “Forward as attachment”
4. Send this letter to the recipient.

Second(forwards the letter as an attachment, saving it to the computer as an intermediate step):
1. Log in to Webmail (Roundcube)
2. Open the desired letter
3. Click on the “More” button
4. Select “Save (.eml)” and save the file to your computer.
5. Press the button “Compose”
6. Add the .eml file saved as an attachment to the letter and send to the recipient.
 


 

4. Thunderbird

 
1. Open the Thunderbird mail application
2. Select the required letter
3. Right-click the mouse and select “Forward as ..” -> “As attachment” from the menu
4. Send a letter to the recipient
 


 

5. Mac Mail (on the computer)

 
1. Open the Mac Mail app
2. Select the letter you want to forward
3. Press CMD-SHIFT-H to open the header information of this letter
4. Right-click on the letter and select “Send as attachment” from the menu
5. Send a letter to the recipient
 


 

6. Mac Mail (iOS smartphone app)

 
Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to send the desired email as an attachment with an iOS smart device. For this, we recommend using another application or forwarding mail from a computer
 


 

7. Gmail app for Android phone

 
Unfortunately, the functionality provided by the Gmail app is currently not available on Android smart devices. To forward the required email as an attachment, go to the following address on your smart device https://gmail.com (Gmail), sign in with your Google account and proceed with the instructions mentioned in the following section on this page 1. 8. Hotmail

 
1. Log in to your Hotmail account
2. Click on “Inbox” from the left menu
3. Right-click on the message you want to send as an attachment and select “View Message Source”
4. Save the text, shown in the opened window to your device as a plain text file
5. Create a new message and add an attachment saved on your device
6. Send a letter to the recipient
